Knitting, Crocheting and Quilting Patriotic Patterns
With Memorial Day around the corner and Independence Day coming soon it’s time to start creating flags and knit, crochet, and quilt all those patriotic patterns out there. I’ve taken the liberty to search the internet looking for some fun projects for you to enjoy this time of year. I’ve tried to add 5 patterns for each hobby.
Knit Patriotic Patterns
I have put together 5 knitting patriotic patterns for you to give a try. The first is this fun and FREE American Flag Sweater by Berocco Design Team. Sizes for this sweater come in small, medium, and large. Knit with worsted weight yarn which they recommend as Berroco Cotton Twist Solids however it has been discontinued. Although, I’m still sure you can find a similar yarn. Needles are sizes 6mm and 8mm. It’s beautiful and and easy knit pattern for beginners.
Next is this fun American Flag pillow cover by Jennifer Wilby with star buttons sewn on. A fast and simple project for any knitter to add to their holiday decor. This pattern cost $4.95 and is perfect Memorial Day or the 4th of July decorations. It is knit in one piece and star buttons are sewn on but you can use applique or whatever your heart desires. The pillow cover measures 12″ x 16″ knit with worsted weight yarn and US size 6mm and 8mm needles.
Another great design is this 13 star American Flag Afghan by Lion Brand Yarn. Beautiful whether knit or crocheted. The knit afghan is knit in garter stitch and the stars are crocheted and sewn on. Worked in worsted weight yarn with knitting needle size 10 1/2 and crochet hook size H. The yarn recommended is chunky Lion Brand Homespun or Lion Brand Wool-Ease Solids, Heathers & Twists. Another easy pattern and it’s a FREE pattern that comes in both knit or crochet so go for it!
Since we’re pulling out all the decorations how about a wreath for the front door. Using your favorite worsted yarn this wreath pattern is another great FREEBIE. Using a loom for this one you will have a red, white, and blue wreath by Tracy Kelly for all to see.
Now for the picnic table or any table for that matter is this wonderful Celebration Table Runner by Jean Clement. The price for the pattern runs $6 and would make a great hostess gift. Knit in lace pattern with a basket weave field for the stars. You can either sew on buttons or applique stars. You will need 3 skeins of yarn and US size 6 mm needles. Yarn recommended is Patons North America Grace.
Crochet Patriotic Patterns
Here are 5 crochet patriotic patterns that are super fun. If you are into amigurumi here is a sweet little American Flag teddy bear by A Olsson for your Snugglebugg. The pattern is available from Craftsy for $3.50 and uses size G crochet hook, worsted yarn, fiber fill some cute eyes and nose if you like. How much fun would he be to make for the holiday picnic.
Miss 4th of July couldn’t be any cuter than this little bundle of joy in her diaper cover and headband by Darling Derriere Designs. This pattern is easy to crochet and comes in sizes from newborn to 18 months. The pattern is available in Darling Derriere Designs Etsy shop for $5.50 A cute tutu and star headband crocheted with size H hook and worsted weight yarn.
How adorable are these little booties perfect for the headband and diaper tutu above. These Red White and Blue Striped Baby Flag Shoes by Evonne Umbel is quite festive and easy to crochet. Using worsted weight yarn and crochet hook size G, H, I and 2 little buttons for sizes newborn through 12 months. The pattern runs $4.50 in Evonne’s Etsy shop CuppaStitches.
A beautiful crochet placemat and coaster set by Red Heart Yarns is a great FREEBIE for the holidays and your decorations. This Americana Place Setting by Marilyn Coleman is and easy to crochet set with hook size G and Red Heart Eco-Cotton Blend it is just perfect.
Quilt Patriotic Patterns
Last but not least are 5 quilting patriotic patterns to sew together for those summer picnics. The first American flag quilt I have listed is this one from Christine Thresh. It can be vertical, horizontal or even wave. It’s a beautiful masterpiece to quilt.

I had to add this Homeland Mini Quilt based on a design by Candy Hargrove. I absolutely love the movement of the stripes.
Last but not least is this beautiful Oh My Stars Wall hanging that screams independence and the American flag. It’s on sale right now for $1.99 at Annie’s. The size is 33″ x 33″ and skill level is easy. So give it a shot for sure.
