A King’s Crown
Square 3 in our 52-week sampler afghan knit-along is in honor of Martin Luther King Jr. I have named it King and it is a crown. Now I must say I do believe in only one true King, but for this week, I think a crown is a good reference for MLK.
I have made a color graph in gold and white but of course, use any color you like. Another thing if you are not comfortable with using 2 colors of yarn this can be done the same as the 2016-square.
The square is worked across 41 sts and is 8″ x 8″
Gauge is 17 sts = 4″ and 23 rows= 4″
Yarn: Worsted weight
Needle size 6 or size needed to obtain gauge.
My original crown design I knit up, but I was not very fond of it. So, I made a few changes to the crown and I think it’s more appealing. Also, I am an unusually loose knitter. I have noticed that most patterns call for example size 8 needle, but I usually have to drop down two sizes. So, if you are a tight knitter I would go up 1 or 2 sizes.
Have Fun and Happy Knitting!
