Learn New Knitting Patterns
This week’s free knitting patterns square is all about the heart stitch. This is a nice lacey stitch for a shawl or blanket with a feminine flair. I chose to knit this square with a garter stitch border to reduce curl and give it some substance. I used some lavender red heart soft yarn I had on hand. It is worsted but this could be done in a DK weight or sport if needed for the gauge to get 3 rows of hearts in the 8″ square.
Members of my newsletter also received a valentine heart graph this week for an 8″ x 8″ square. Remember that with any smaller graph, you can insert it into just about any project. I hope you like it.
So far you should have learned 5 knitting patterns. For week six you have a choice between 2 patterns, the hearts stitch lace square or the “I heart you” knitting chart sent to newsletter members only. I’m including all the links below for knitting squares 1-5. This includes graph chart links for the king’s crown and the musical legends notes. A total of 9 free patterns.
Also, this week in the news the Broncos won the Super Bowl! I know you didn’t hear anything about it. (LOL) Well, I’m a Carolina girl and I was saddened by the Panthers loss. My daughter said it well when she said she was glad Peyton Manning won one last Super Bowl game. We know Cam Newton will have plenty of chances in the future and will win in God’s timing, not ours. She’s a much better sport than I am.
Still I was able to spend some quality time with my family. Eat a ton of junk food and let my brother-n-law laugh while the Broncos cleaned up. Since he was in a house full of women who all were rooting for the Panthers.
I did make a 3 piece set of graph knitting patterns for Super Bowl 50. The sizes are 12″ x 12″ squares for the 3 piece set and a knitting chart for each team to make a small lap or toddler size blanket. You can find these in my Etsy shop SnugglebuggKnit for just $3.00. If you use the code “SuperBowl” you will receive 35% off. Easy digital pdf. downloads.
Below is a list of the squares I have released for our 52-week sampler afghan along with a link. It’s not too late to catch up and make your very own sampler blanket and learn some great new techniques. A few more hearts this month and some cables and brioche seem like winning stitches for March. So get busy if you haven’t started yet.

Week 5: Harlequin Stitch
I want to remind you to block your squares as you go. You can learn how in my previous article 3 Methods for Blocking Your Knits. After my squares are dry I unpin them and stack them under a book to prevent curling until I’m ready to join them.
