Knit Ponytail Hat Patterns – AKA Messy Bun Hats

Ponytail or Messy Bun Hats have been all the rage this winter. Whether you are a knitter or a crocheter I have found some beautiful and fun ponytail hat patterns for you to work up and show off the rest of the cold season. I generally address the knitter but I love to crochet and will be adding crochet patterns from time to time and how to articles for those who are interested in learning to crochet or who already do both knit and crochet. There is a wonderful video at the bottom on how to crochet a beautiful beanie. Have fun!

The first in our Messy Bun and Ponytail Hat Patterns Showcase is this Pony Tail Hat by Isela Phelps and is made using an all in one loom with malabrigo yarn, merino worsted. This is a great option for those who are not comfortable knitting in the round. For more details and the full pattern check out their website at Knitting Board Chat. Personally, I can not use a knitting board it takes me too long but it’s a great option and I’m for anything that helps you knit more.

This is a colorful Opal Pony Tail Hat made with Opal Wool yarn by The Bead and Opal Wool Queen. I absolutely love the colors. This would be perfect for young girls of just about any age. Me ok it’s for me I love pink LOL! Still, I like the colors on this hat and say it’s a must have for FREE too! Worked with 1 ball of Opal on size 4 mm needles. Sized for girl or adult.

This hat is nice made for the New Jersey winters with buttons so you can easily put it on then button it in place and remove it without messing up your hairdo. Made with Misti Alpaca Chunky yarn and size 10 needles Hannah by Blake Ehrlich is a nice hat to have in your wardrobe for sure.

Gorgeous Tea Cozy Hat by Wooly Wormhead. Knit with size 8 needles and Debbie Bliss Maya  aran yarn (chunky). This hat is a quick knit and has a drawstring opening that can be opened or closed depending on what your hair is for the day. Another great addition to anyone’s collection.

I just love the colors in this hat. The Simple Bulky Messy Bun Pony  Tail Beanie by Nicole Tsou is knit with less than 1 skein of  Loops & Threads Charisma. Knit on size 11 needles for an adult makes this just a lovely hat to have for oneself or give to a friend. A free Ravelry download makes it so easy!
